This I did to let you see: Threads of Literacy and Learning on Hopkinton Samplers

Hopkinton, Rhode Island (May 3 – Oct. 11, 2026)

 

Exhibition of Rhode Island samplers hosted by the Hopkinton Historical Association (Sundays, May 3 – Oct. 11, 2026). Titled “‘This I did to let you see’: Threads of Literacy and Learning on Hopkinton Samplers” the exhibit showcases fourteen schoolgirl samplers (1792-1835) with ties to Rhode Island’s town of Hopkinton. The exhibit was curated by Lynne Anderson, President of the Sampler Consortium International. The Hopkinton Historical Association is located in Hopkinton, Rhode Island. On Point: Needlework from the Garthwaite Family Collection

Shelburne Museum, Shelburne Vermont (May 9 – Oct. 25, 2026)

 

Exhibition at the Shelburne Museum in northern Vermont features highlights from the Garthwaite Family Collection of Vermont samplers. Curated by Katie Wood Kirchhoff, the exhibition includes alphabet samplers, needlework pictures, family registers, memorials and other forms of schoolgirl art. The Vermont Sampler Initiative documented the Garthwaite collection and collaborated on this exhibition.
